This topic has been on my heart for a while and spoken from the mouths of many indie artist from Chicago.
It is no secret that Chicago Radio refuses to get behind their own city's artist and play their music. While the Artist knows that gate keeping in Chicago is alive and very real they keep going and striving to be heard.
It doesn’t matter how talented the artist is, it matters how much they can pay or if they are apart of a big record label that can afford to pay to play. Chicago Artist submit music to only get ignored. The Dj’s for mainstream radio that can make a change aren’t from Chicago so they have no heart connection to the city, the people!
Chicago has groomed and raised some very special underground artist that don’t get the opportunity to really be heard.
It’s really only a few mainstream radio stations that support the underground scene and that’s Seandale’s show on Raw radio power 92.Aka the Mayor of City.
DJ Chiblizz the CrownHolder also plays indie artist on his show on internet radio The morning Jump off and 106.3 The Ownership Club on Sundays. Chiblizz will hear an artist and tap in with them if he feels something special about them.
DJ Qball known for being Crucial Conflict past DJ also started his own radio station CRSMG radio with Cohost and artist Shannon Clay. CRSMG focus on highlighting indie artist from Chicago playing all different genres of music but especially Hiphop, Soul and Rnb.
Dj Qball is known for playing an entire party set full of Chicago Artist. Dj Qball doesn’t get spoke about enough but trust he’s 1 of them ones!
My love for Hiphop, I can’t fail to mention Host Taigo Onez Chief of WHPK Radio. He shares his platform with Chicago DJ’s, highlighting their musical gifts while providing an opportunity for Chicago indie artist at the same time. Taigo is another one making a difference for the underground scene.
The DJ’s can’t do it by themselves but some that I have to shine the light on are 💪🏽 Dj ShaunT, DJ T-Rell. Dj Phonz DJ Double8 Dj K Ceaser DJ Slugo and DJ Ruff are all Trail Blazers of Chicago. They don’t care about who is the most popular or the money. They care about the artist and the quality of their music, They step out the box to make a difference for artist from Chicago. If you see these brothers spinning in the Clubs, Skating rinks, radio stations The House Festivals stop through and give em some love because they deserve it!
Im sure there are some more gems in Chicago that go hard for the land and when I come across their path know I will show the LOVE
